Wiki-Wikimapia!Ü

Guys, check out my new discovery: http://www.wikimapia.org/

An officemate pointed it out to me last night and we had fun locating each other's houses in the site. You can actually add a place, enter a description, then save it so that the whole world can see! I actually already added 2 places: our house now and the one we lived in before. All you have to do is enter a location or a specific place (e.g. Manila, Parañaque, Quezon City...or you can be more specific like St. Scholastica's College, Manila Doctor's Hospital, etc.) in the search box (at the right topmost portion of your screen) then click SEARCH. A satellite view of the area will be given to you by the site. Then you can just zoom in, zoom out, pan left, right, top or bottom by using the (+), (-), and arrow buttons on the left portion of the screen.

Once you've found what you're looking for, you can actually add that place to the site by clicking on the ADD PLACE button on the top leftmost side. A small box that you can move and resize will be shown around the center of your screen. SAVE it then a popup box will appear indicating that you should enter a description for the place you just added. SAVE all the information you've entered and voila! You've just added a place for everyone to view at Wikimapia.org! It's that simple! If you think you got a place wrong, you can delete it in the 2-hour window after it's creation. After that, sorry! It's gonna be there for the rest of the website's lifetime (or unless the moderator removes it).

It's fun to play around with the site actually, coz some of our kababayan provide such hilarious descriptions such as: Tambakan ng sirang Salipawpaw, which I actually saw when I was trying to locate our DCB office in Pasay. Aside from that, you can also try to locate the houses of your relatives abroad and at least see what their roof looks like (if you haven't been able to visit their place...HAHA!).

Well folks, that's all for now. Have fun exploring Wikimapia.org!
